“New Edition” is an American R&B/Pop band from Boston, Massachusetts. This band was created by Bobby Brown in 1978. Their group name is taken to mean a new edition of the Jackson 5. This group became popular in the 1980s and is considered the blueprint of a boy band nowadays. The original group members were Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Bobby Brown, Ronnie DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant. Bobby Brown left the group in late 1985 to pursue his solo career. The group continued as a quartet for one album until they added Johnny Gill to the lineup in 1987.
