The story is set in 1995, where Joanna, an aspiring writer, and poet, left Berkley, California, and her boyfriend Karl to take a job at one of New York’s oldest literary agencies run by Margaret. Afterward, she came to know that the agency represents the notoriously reclusive writer J.D Salinger. She hasn’t read a single book of Salinger; she still worked hard and acquired the trust of Margaret portrayed by Sigourney Weaver. Margaret wants people to work in the conventional ways of using typewriters and believes computers are not helpful for writing stuff in any case.
