Small Axe is a British-American anthology film miniseries, premiered on 15th November 2020 on BBC One in the UK, and set to be released on 20th November 2020 in the US on Amazon Prime Video. The series’ three out of five episodes have been screened on 24th September 2020, in the 58th New York Film Festival, including “Lovers Rock,” “Mangrove,” and “Red, White, and Blue.” It is directed and co-written by Steve Macqueen. This series is based on the real-life experiences of London’s West Indian Community during the era of 1969 and 1982. The episode “Lover’s Rock” is about a single evening at a house party in 1980s West London, creating a scene of mixed drama, with people developing entwined relationships alongside a background of violence, romance, and music. The movie depicts London’s thriving subculture of the subjugated and alienated community who weren’t allowed to enter white dance clubs, so they created their own, complete with Jamaican bouncers and with entry fee.
