Fargo is a crime drama, black comedy, anthology television series; each season is set in a different era and location, portraying a new story and new characters and cast, however, with minor overlap. Noah Hawley is the creator and initial writer of this series that is mainly inspired by the 1996 film of the same name, written and directed by the Coen brothers. Coen brothers found Hawley’s script quite impressive, so they agreed to be named as executive producers of the new series. Each season is greatly influenced by different Coen brother’s films, with several references to those films in each season. The third season is set in 2010, where a St. Cloud probation officer Ray Stussy with his parolee girlfriend Nikki, attempted to steal his rich older brother, Emmit Stussy’s valuable vintage stamp. Though they failed in this plan, they both have to cover their involvement in two deaths. In the meantime, Emmit is planning to return the money to a shady company he borrowed from a couple of years ago, but the mysterious company has other plans. The season received critical acclamation earning three Golden Globe nominations for the Outstanding Limited Series and acting nominations for the main actors Ewan McGregor for playing Ray Stussy and David Thewlis for V.M.Varga.
