How Bohemian Rhapsody Proved Everyone Wrong

Oscars; one of the biggest nights on the award season calendar where millions of fans around the world tune in to watch the glamorous and the most awaited ceremony of the year.

This year’s Oscars marked the 91st ceremony which took place inLos Angeles.

The fans are obviously very well aware of the winner of the night but the ones who missed the show still find it hard to digest that the best actor of the big night was Rami Malek who won the Oscars for his role in Bohemian Rhapsody.

Rami Malek played the role of  Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic who passed away in 1991 due to aids. The movie revolves around the singer’s life from joining the band till his first show. This biopic that was announced in 2010 went through a difficult production process as the lead actor left the movie in 2013 after which Rami Malek was casted to play the role of Mercury. The movie finally got off the shelves and release in 2018.

The film was a big hit in the box office in spite of receiving criticism on portraying Freddie’s life and sexuality. On the other hand Rami continued to receive good reviews on his performance in the movie. Post release no one including Rami would have ever thought that he would make it to the Oscars.
Bohemian Rhapsody became the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2018 with a budget of $50 million and grossing up to $860 million worldwide.

“We made a film about a gay man, an immigrant, who lived his life just unapologetically himself,” Malek said in his speech when he went up on the stage to receive his award.

This statement obviously did not go unnoticed by the ones watching and present in the ceremony. Later followed by comments from people around that the actor does not know the character well enough to know that Mercury was bisexual and not gay. While some wondered over the actors research on Mercury and how he ended up missing such an important detail. However some also defended Rami, claiming that Mercury was always private about his sexuality and never confirmed it.

Rami ended his speech by saying that due to the enormous audience he believes that people worldwide still have an appetite for biopics or stories of minorities.

Are you a part of the enormous audience or probably the biggest fan of mercury? You can be or rather feel like him by getting yourself a leather jacket from Ujackets which is inspired from the movie Bohemian Rhapsody and worn by Rami Malek; the lead actor who played the role of Freddie Mercury.

Nevertheless if you haven’t watched Bohemian Rhapsody yet, you should watch it now because we hope that Rami Malek the Oscar winning actor and the music alone are enough to convince you.
